“Just a few weeks after the American Pianists Association chose its 2021 winner, it has named a new leader,” writes Domenica Bongiovanni in Thursday’s (7/15) Indianapolis Star. “On Aug. 1, Peter Mraz will become president and CEO of the organization that runs one of the most renowned piano competitions in the country. He’ll replace Joel Harrison, who will retire after about 21 years with the association. Harrison will continue in a consulting role…. The new leader brings extensive experience…. He was project manager for the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and London Symphony Orchestra, where he worked on the U.K. premiere of Wynton Marsalis’ ‘Swing Symphony’ and the new film score for Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog.’ Mraz also increased the live outdoor simulcast reach for the Royal Opera House…. Most recently, Mraz worked for the Arts Consulting Group in Chicago, where he served as associate vice president and worked on strategic planning projects and feasibility studies for arts facilities, among other duties…. Mraz graduated from the Košice Conservatory of Music in his native Slovakia and obtained a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.”
